Differentiating employment branding with wellness

Not only does Catto & Catto help its clients promote wellness, but the firm is a leader in developing and maintaining a healthy workplace for its own employees. With a wellness steering committee that represents various parts of the organization, Catto & Catto has created a culture of wellness that engages and enrolls employees in healthy activities — and delivers results for the firm too.

In fact, the company has been recognized multiple times by the City of San Antonio as one of the healthiest employers in the city — a recognition that is based on company culture, health promotion, physical activity, nutrition, tobacco cessation, and wellness program design.

Challenge

Expand its culture of wellness and further differentiate its employment brand as a healthy employer.

Solution

Implement four-week employee Mindfulness Challenge using Mindario

A fresh addition to wellness challenges

“At Catto & Catto, we prioritize personalized service for our clients across Texas and the U.S., whether they be large or small,” said Michelle Wright, wellness experience director at Catto & Catto. “Keeping our best asset — our employees — healthy and well is part of our commitment to deliver that superior service.”

To expand its culture of wellness and further reinforce its position as a healthy employer, Catto & Catto launched a mindfulness challenge with Mindario, a fresh alternative to the traditional physical fitness corporate challenges its employees were accustomed to.

During the four-week mindfulness challenge, employees experienced a variety of different content themes — including Intro to Mindfulness, Mindful Relationships, Mindful Eating, and Gratitude — and participated in activities ranging from guided meditation to journaling and experience activities.

Strategically driving program engagement

Catto & Catto took a strategic approach to engaging employees with the program, taking advantage of pre-built communication assets from Mindario and offering an incentive that enhanced participation rates too.

Weekly, auto-delivered nudges to employees from Mindario helped remind participants to engage with the mindfulness activities and take time from their busy lives to be present.

Employee engagement: 2X compared to benchmarks

To measure program success, an in-app progress screen helped participants visualize their own journey through the challenge, while an opt-in privacy-minded administrator dashboard assisted the firm’s wellness staff in determining eligibility for participation incentives.

The firm’s culture of wellness, combined with the ease of program delivery from Mindario, contributed to the success of its mindfulness challenge — employees at Catto & Catto achieved 2X the engagement of companies with mindfulness activities when compared to benchmark challenges of other companies.

Mindfulness for real life

“The Mindario challenge made mindfulness more approachable for our organization, and more immediately applicable for real-life situations,” said Barbara Bentley, Chief Talent Officer at Catto & Catto. “The app was easy to access, and the short, bite-sized content helped engage our employees, no matter what life situation they are in.”

For Catto & Catto employees, the mindfulness challenge was a fresh addition to the firm’s wellness activities — whether or not they the employees were already engaged with mindfulness activities of their own accord.

Many participants noted that although they were familiar with some meditation concepts, they appreciated the journaling and reflection prompts offered as part of the app. For others, the short, app-based content helped them balance their busy lives with real-life mindfulness practices that had immediate personal application.

And for the firm’s culture of service, a focus on wellness and emotional health helps drive Catto & Catto success. “Our firm’s differentiation is the relationship we have with clients,” said Bentley. “The more present we can be with them, the more they know that Catto & Catto delivers the personalized service they depend on.”

Results

Employee engagement: Catto & Catto achieved 2X the engagement of companies with mindfulness activities when compared to benchmark challenges of similar companies

I use traditional meditation as an immediate coping tool in tough situations (most of the time), but the challenge really showed how it (and other mindfulness practices) can be used to mitigate those situations in the first place.
